Description |
It is an aminofluroquinoline and exerts
its antibacterial activity vis the inhibition of DNA
replication of bacteria by inhibiting DNA gyrase activity.
Its absorption begins soon after oral administration.
The distribution of sparfloxacin in nasal mucosa and
sinus mucosa is primarily high. It is metabolised
by the liver to an inactive acylglucuronide conjugate.
The terminal plasma elimination half-life is about
20 Hrs. Elimination of sparfloxacin is complete.

Indications |
Pneumonia, acute exacerbation of chronic
bronchitis, lower respiratory tract infection, acute
sinusitis, gonococcal and non-gonococcal urethritis
in males.

Dosage |
Lower respiratory tract infections:
400mg as single dose on the first day followed by
200mg each day for 10 days.
