Enzymes are considered beneficial for
dyspepsia and as appetite stimulants. Preparations
containing different enzymes are available for use.
Diastase and taka diastase are enzymes derived from
Aspergillus oryzae, used in treatment of pancreatic
insufficiency. Pancreatin is a mixture of pancreatic
enzymes containing Amylase, Trypsin and Lipase. It
is used in treatment in patients suffering from chronic
pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis. These enzymes are to
be taken before or with meals. Perianal irritation
may occur if enzymes are taken in excessive amounts
with or without food.Carminatives are agents that
cause expulsion of gases from GIT, give a sense of
comfort and a feeling of warmth in epigastrium. Tincture
Cardamon, Compound Tincture Ginger, Sodium Bicarbonate
and Peppermint oil are carminatives that are used
for dyspepsia, flatulence, indigestion, griping in
infants and children.
