Description |
: It is a broad spectrum fluoro quinolone
with activity against pseudo monas aeruginosa. It
penetrates into the bacterial cells with much more
readily and exerts a potent bactericidal effect by
inhibition of the A sub unit of bacterial DNA girase
an essential enzyme involved in DNA replication precipitating
a sequence of events leading to lysis of the bacteria.
Its oral bio-availability is 40% excretion occurs
both in urine as well as in faeces.

Indications |
: Neuro genital infections, typhoid fever,
acute bacterial gastroenteritis, gonorrhoea, prophylaxis
of sepsis in neutropenic patients. |
Dosage |
Typhoid fever – 400mg twice daily
for 14 daysUTI : 400mg twice daily for 3 days up to
12 weeksGonorrhoea : 800mg as single doseAcute Bacterial
Gastroenteritis : 400mg two to three times daily for
5 daysProphylaxis of sepsis in neutropenic patients
:400mg two to three times daily up to 8 weeks |
