High-Strength Low-Alloy steels (HSLA) cost less than the regular alloy steels because they contain only small amounts of the expensive alloying elements. HSLA steels have much more strength than carbon steels of the same weight. Numerous products are now being designed with HSLA steels, as they can be made thinner to reduce weight without sacrificing strength.
